Changes in Channel Attribution (Direct vs Organic)

Beginning Dec 4th/5th we noticed the properties.referrer value was not being passed into the Google Analytics Call.  We are looking at reasons that the value would be captured in the Segment Call but not passed to the Google Analytics call.  We have been looking into our own site changes to see if this was an effect of our changes but have not been able to confirm.  I was wondering if there was something we should implement to prevent the loss of data between the two calls.
