About

Good data quality starts with a well thought out Tracking Plan. With Protocols, you can define your events and corresponding properties via the tracking plan, which becomes a central source of truth for product, engineering, analytics, marketing, and business teams.

If less than 40% of your data is flowing through your tracking plans in Protocols, your data isn’t being properly validated, which can result in a lower quality of data filtering to your downstream tools creating more work for your team over time.

Customer Q&A

  1. What is the best practice for cadence to review workspace to see violations? Best practice always revolves around when/if you're making changing/updates as a business - or anything new. In general, look whenever you are in the workspace. Also, you can automate this process by forwarding violations to downstream destinations.
  2. Want to review my whole tracking plan - what is the best way to do this across multiple sources? You can do this programmatically via the Segment API.
  3. If you're defining events and add properties from a "property library", can you also add non-library properties to those events? For example, you may have two standard properties you want on all events. You can pull from the library for properties. There are a few ways to add individual things; there is an option through UI to do things manually. You can also make updates to individual tracking plans by pulling from the Library via the Public API.
  4. Can I transfer a Tracking Plan between Production and Staging environments? Easiest and most complete way is to use the Public API where you can do a complete download of everything related to the Tracking Plan. Then upload it into new space.
  5. Do blocked and discarded events count towards my MTU counts? No. Blocked events within source schema or Tracking Plan excludes from MTU / API calculations.
  6. Can I get alerted by email or in Slack if there is something with my Protocols setup that needs my attention? Yes! You can forward this to a source then to your downstream tools.

Not sure if it is on the roadmap - but it would be cool if I could just watch the demo without having to register when coming from a logged in state in the community.

I agree. We’ll take a look at other format options for the community.  All on demand videos should now be embedded for immediate viewing.
